Calling all cowgirls and cowboys

Ok all you mooovers and milkshakers check out this udderly amazing image from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

‘Books Mooove Me’, the SCBWI cow, is to remind us of the power and magic of children’s books and young imaginations.

It is part of the International Cow Parade to be held in the Margaret River region between March and June 2010.

Fremantle Press author Dianne Wolfer said the project began when she saw the callout for expressions of interest.

“I showed it to Frane and said – please tell me not to even think about this,” joked Wolfer.

Fortunately for the cow, Frane was all for covering up its blank white body with illustrations and book covers.

Frane led a talented bunch of SCBWI illustrators including Matt Ottley, Wendy Binks, James Foley, Karen Blair, Shannon Melville, Briony Stewart and Samantha Hughes. The cow combines their illustrations with the covers of books published by SCBWI members. That includes the covers for Fremantle Press’ Lighthouse Girl, The Catalpa Escape, Miss Llewellyn-Jones goes to town and Jack’s Island.

“This project is a fabulous way to celebrate the spirit of SCBWI by integrating the talents of our emerging and established illustrators with the skills of our authors,” said Wolfer.

The launch will take place on 21 February in Margaret River after which the cow will be put out to pasture in Augusta for a short stint before being auctioned off later this year.

Don’t miss the parade:
