Hello and happy new year! I’m sure that, like me, you’ve already forgotten the holidays and are back at the coalface. In 2016 Fremantle Press will be celebrating middle age. Yes, folks, we’re turning 40.
That’s 40 years of Western Australian stories, local writers and artists, dedicated staff members, wonderful, supportive booksellers, librarians, sponsors, journalists and event programmers. Last, but not least, that’s 40 years of readers like you.
Our ‘birth’ certificate says we were officially incorporated on 10 May 1976 – but why celebrate on one day when you can celebrate all year long? Our year-long anniversary festivities will begin with the launch of Purple Prose at Perth Writers Festival on Saturday 20 February, and will culminate with an event at Fremantle Arts Centre in November. Our events are all free and everyone’s invited – so stay tuned.
In other news, Fremantle Press’s Ten Tiny Things by Meg McKinlay and Kyle Hughes-Odgers has been optioned by WA film producers Natalie Bell (Outside the Lines Pty Ltd) and Ella Wright. We can’t wait to see what they do with this award-winning picture book.
Till next time,
