Our Values
Fremantle Press respectfully acknowledges the First Nations peoples of Australia as its traditional owners and custodians. We thank them for the continuing contributions they make to the life of this country through storytelling. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
We believe in the power of storytelling, and the value of reading and of sharing perspectives as a means to enrich our culture and understanding.
We are community focused, and we value our relationships with writers, readers, booksellers, schools and libraries, local community groups and other arts organisations which share our values
We aim to be accessible and inclusive in our work, and we celebrate diversity through our many and varied contributors, our range of books and our engagement with communities of readers and writers.
We value sustainability, we want to invest in the future generation of writers and readers, by championing creativity and fostering a love of books in young readers.
We are ambitious, independent and creative, and we work to promote new voices and to reach new readers.
Fremantle Press is led by its values in publishing a range of books, across genres, with focus on the following:
Our place and its people: We support memoir, biography, fiction and non-fiction works for general readers, with a focus on titles with a connection to WA. We also offer consultancy services to individuals and organisations to produce significant works for more specific audiences.
Understanding our past, inspiring our future: We publish historical fiction and non-fiction works that highlight lesser-known stories, inspiring discussion and reflection about the history of our people and our place in the world, including for younger readers.
Giving voice to our community: We nurture diverse emerging voices through community-led initiatives, such as anthologies, which provide development opportunities for editors and other publishing professionals, as well as for writers and artists.
Reaching for the stars: We publish children’s books for all ages by new and established WA-based creatives, which build the careers of local talent on a national and international level and help to raise the profile of Fremantle Press.
First stories, First Nations: We continue to champion works from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island storytellers, including short- and long-form memoir, non-fiction and children’s books. We support dual language editions of our children’s books and work with First Nations writers and other educators to promote understanding of language in schools and communities.
