Turn your next book club into something truly special with a relaxed afternoon tea and the chance to meet an exciting local voice. Share a cuppa with 2022 Hungerford Award winner Molly Schmidt!
Molly will join you and 6–8 fellow readers for an intimate conversation about her debut novel Salt River Road – a vivid coming-of-age story set in the late 1970s in her Great Southern hometown of Albany. She’ll speak about where the book began, what shaped it and what it’s like to bring a deeply place-based story to life on the page, with plenty of time for questions and discussion.
A writer and journalist from regional Western Australia, Molly’s work is grounded in community and connection. The relationships formed through writing Salt River Road have led to a remarkable next chapter: two Elders have invited her to support them in writing their life stories, a commitment she is honouring through a PhD project at Curtin University with support from the Forrest Research Foundation.
Whether your group already knows Molly’s work or is discovering her for the first time, this is a warm, welcoming author experience, and a wonderful way to create a memorable book club event. Afternoon tea is included, hosted at Fremantle Press’s new home on Parry Street. Date and time are negotiable.
