Lighthouse Girl hits the road with Black Swan State Theatre Company
Back by popular demand, Hellie Turner’s adaptation of Dianne Wolfer’s award-winning books comes to regional stages this April. The Lighthouse Girl enjoyed a sold-out premiere season. Black Swan State Theatre Company is now taking this unique Anzac story on the road to regional Western Australia.
Based on the books Lighthouse Girl and Light Horse Boy by Dianne Wolfer, the play follows the stories of Fay and Charlie, depicting the struggles of those left at home during WWI, as well as those who went to war.
Fay lives an isolated life with her lighthouse keeper father on the windswept Breaksea Island. When the war breaks out, Fay begins transcribing Morse code messages from the soldiers stationed offshore in order to pass on their messages to loved ones. Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, Charlie and his best mate Jim become soldiers in the Light Horse Brigade in search of adventure. They soon come to discover the brutal realities of life on the frontline.
The regional tour coincides with the final year of the Anzac centenary, marking 100 years since Australia’s involvement in WWI. It will run from 17 April to 5 May. Dates, venues and booking details are below.
