Indigenous picture books head to Italy

Caterpillar and Butterfly by Ambelin Kwaymullina and My Country by Sally Morgan and Ezekiel Kwaymullina have both been chosen for the ‘Hello from Australia’ Picture Book Exhibition at this year’s Bologna Children’s Book Fair in March 2011.

The books will be featured in the book showcase on the Australian Publishers Association stand from Monday 28 March to Thursday 31 March.

Ambelin Kwaymullina said she was incredibly excited to have Caterpillar and Butterfly included in the exhibition. This is the second piece of good news for this title, which also made the 2011 shortlist for the Western Australian Young Readers Award.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair attracts some 1300 exhibitors and 4763 trade representatives from 67 countries. ‘Hello from Australia’ is presented by Books Illustrated and the Australian Publishers Association with support from Copyright Agency Limited’s Cultural Fund.

The paperback edition of Caterpillar and Butterfly will be released in May 2011.

My Country will be launched at the Western Australian School Library Association breakfast on 10 June 2011.
