Maling shortlisted for Mary Gilmore Award
Fremantle Press poet Caitlin Maling is one of four writers on the shortlist for the 2016 Mary Gilmore Award for the best first book of Australian poetry published in the past two years.
Her collection, Conversations I’ve never had, has been shortlisted alongside A Vicious Example by Michael Aiken, Lens Flare by Benedict Andrews and Woodsmoke by Todd Turner.
The award is administered by the Association for the Study of Australian Literature, which promotes the study, discussion and creation of Australian writing. Former winners include Judith Beveridge, Alison Croggon and Lucy Dougan.
Conversations I’ve never had is available now at all good bookstores and online. Maling won a Dorothy Hewett Flagship Fellowship at Varuna to complete her second collection of poetry, Border Crossings, which is scheduled for publication in 2017. The title poem from the collection won the Harri Jones Memorial Prize in the Newcastle Poetry Awards in 2014.
