Women of a Certain Age anthology is a finalist in Foreword INDIES Book of the Year

Women of a Certain Age, edited by Jodie Moffat, Maria Scoda and Susan Laura Sullivan is one of eight books in the running to win the USA’s Foreword INDIES Book of the Year for Women’s Studies.

In Women of a Certain Age, Anne Aly, Liz Byrski, Sarah Drummond, Mehreen Faruqi, Goldie Goldbloom, Krissy Kneen, Jeanine Leane, Brigid Lowry and Pat Mamanyjun Torres are among 15 voices recounting what it is like to be a woman on the other side of 40.

Foreword’s editorial team chose the finalists from more than 2,000 entries spread across the 56 genre categories. The winners will be decided by a panel of librarian and bookseller judges from across the United States with Women’s Studies judges looking for books that deal with the experiences, issues and advancement of women throughout history and today.

Founder and publisher of Foreword Reviews Victoria Sutherland said determining the finalists was a rewarding process. ‘Each year we are reminded what a vital part of publishing indie presses occupy, and knowing what the recognition could mean to an individual book inspires us to provide our finalist judges with the best choices to help them determine the winners. We take this privilege very seriously.’

The other finalists are 50 Contemporary Women Artists edited by John Gosslee and Heather Zises, Born Criminal by Angelica Shirley Carpenter, Healing Steps by Sharyn Higdon Jones, Sexism Ed by Kelly J. Baker, Somos Latinas by Andrea-Teresa Arenas and Eloisa Gómez, Trust Women by Rebecca Todd Peters and Women Who Dig by Trina Moyles and K.J. Dakin (photographer).

Winners in each genre, along with Editor’s Choice Prize winners and Foreword’s Independent Publisher of the Year, will be announced on 15 June 2019.
