A scent-sational activity inspired by The Midnight Chew

Get kids drawing and giggling with a new hands-on activity inspired by the new picture book The Midnight Chew by Sally Morgan and Karen Blair. This activity will have kids imagining the stinky things dogs like Boofa Boy Jones and Skippy Gillespie might find delightful. Draw the objects, label and colour them, then describe the smells!

Complement this activity with free teaching notes to introduce some classroom discussion, such as:

  • Talking about what it means to be a good friend (what did Skippy Gillespie and Boofa Boy Jones learn about friendship?);
  • Examining the descriptive language in the book and sparking discussion and activities around adjectives;
  • Brainstorming which foods students would love for a midnight snack, then engaging in a discussion around healthy foods and ‘sometimes’ foods.
