Fremantle Press author Kelly Canby in running for Australia’s richest literary award

A Leaf Called Greaf by Kelly Canby has been shortlisted for a Prime Minister’s Literary Award. To be announced on 29 September, should Kelly win her category she’ll receive a $100,000 tax-free cash prize.

The Prime Minister’s Literary Awards recognise individual excellence and the contribution Australian authors make to the nation’s cultural and intellectual life. Creative Australia received 645 entries across six literary categories: fiction, non-fiction, young adult literature, children’s literature, poetry and Australian history.

Shortlisted in the children’s fiction category, A Leaf Called Greaf has also been recognised on the CBCA Book of the Year Awards shortlist and won the WA Premier’s Book Awards for Children’s Book of the Year.

Cleverly written with beautifully rendered illustrations reflecting the seasons of grief, Canby’s book is a wonderful way for families and children to understand how to cope with losing something, or someone, precious to them.

WA authors Briony Stewart and Tim Winton, who will release children’s titles with Fremantle Press titles in the next few months, are also in the running.
