What role can storytelling play in protecting human rights?

Join Yirga Gelaw Woldeyes for the launch of his debut memoir, Trials of Hope (የተስፋ ፈተና). Winner of the 2024 Hungerford Award, Trials of Hope (የተስፋ ፈተና) is a profound and groundbreaking memoir that weaves together stories of heritage and heartache.

The launch takes place on Thursday 5 March at 5.30 pm at the City of Vincent Library.

Yirga will be in conversation with Carina Hoang, award-winning author, advocate and former refugee. At just 16 years old, Carina escaped war-torn Vietnam on a wooden boat with her two younger siblings and 370 other people. Her experience shaped her life and inspired her book, Boat People: Personal stories from the Vietnam Exodus 1975-1996.

Don’t miss this vital conversation about stories of resilience and endurance.

Copies of Trials of Hope (የተስፋ ፈተና) will be available for purchase, courtesy of Boundless Books, and Yirga will be on hand for signing.

Tickets are free but going fast, so book in here: https://events.humanitix.com/trials-of-hope-with-yirga-gelaw-woldeyes/tickets
