Short Stories: The Art of Rearranging Words

5 May–9 June

Explore the art of crafting impactful short stories in this engaging course with Brooke Dunnell.

Through a blend of reading, writing and discussion, you’ll learn how short stories and flash fiction differ from other writing forms.

Participants will be encouraged to write their own short stories, with plenty of opportunities for feedback and development. This fun and informative course is designed to enhance your writing skills, boost your confidence and help you find your unique voice as a storyteller.

Develop Your Writing Practice

2 May–6 June

Add creativity to your weekends with this creative writing workshop!

Over six weeks, you’ll explore writing prompts and exercises designed for both fiction and non-fiction writers. After extended writing time, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your experiences and share extracts with the group.

The workshop will be enhanced with brief readings and discussions on key topics such as theme, genre, narrative voice/point of view, character/dialogue, setting/description, plot/conflict, action/pace and endings. Perfect for writers looking to refine their craft, develop a writing routine and expand their storytelling skills.

Speculative Fiction Writing

30 April–25 June

In this eight-week writing course led by writer and lecturer Dr Prema Arasu, you will explore the diverse worlds of non-realist storytelling — from science fiction and fantasy to supernatural horror and speculative fiction. You’ll examine how these genres challenge our understanding of reality, and learn practical techniques for building immersive worlds, imagining alternative futures and crafting compelling narratives that ask “what if?”.

Through a mix of readings, discussions and writing exercises, you’ll develop your own stories and have the opportunity to share and workshop your work in a supportive, creative environment.

Whether you’re a seasoned writer or new to speculative fiction, this course will help you expand your imagination, sharpen your craft and connect with a community of fellow storytellers.

An Afternoon of Poetry Writing

Spend an afternoon exploring poetry with author and poet Dr Prema Arasu.

In this three-hour workshop, you will be guided through a series of prompts and exercises designed to spark ideas and develop your voice on the page. Through reading, discussion and writing, you will experiment with language, imagery and form while building confidence in your own poetic practice.

This workshop is open to all levels, from complete beginners to those looking to reconnect with their writing in a supportive and creative environment.
