A wonderful chance to hug a koala: join Katie Stewart as she launches her new book, What Colour Is the Sea?

If you ever needed an excuse to pet a koala, now you have one. Join Katie Stewart as she launches her picture book What Colour Is the Sea? alongside a (real!) koala. Hosted by the Shire of Northam Library Service, this free event takes place at 2 pm this Thursday 5 March.

Packed full of delightful Aussie animals, What Colour Is the Sea? is about a young koala who asks a simple question and is surprised by the number of different answers she receives. She decides to walk to the sea to find out for herself what colour it is. She ends up having to stay there all day and all night, and sees the sea change to all the colours her friends told her about.

Katie said the book introduces young children to the concept of accepting different viewpoints, but looking at things for yourself in more detail, so that you can make up your own mind. She said, ‘Everyone loves koalas. You only have to look at the reaction to koalas being lost in the bushfires over East to see that they hold a special place in the hearts of Australians. I love koalas too, and I thought it would be fun to have an animal that’s renowned for sleeping most of the time actually making the effort to go and find something out.’
