What pledge are you making for International Women’s Day 2021?

International Women’s Day is on 8 March and all genders are encouraged by IWD to participate in this year’s #ChooseToChallenge theme. To participate, consider the question ‘What action can I take to help forge a more gender equal world?’ and share your pledge along with a photo of yourself striking this year’s Choose to Challenge pose.

Fremantle Press authors Cristy Burne, Julie Sprigg, Josephine Taylor, Julienne van Loon, H.M. Waugh, and Emma Young have shared their pledges below.

Cristy Burne, Beneath the Trees

Cristy Burne with her hand raised

‘I’m standing in front of one of my mum’s paintings. Mum’s strength and creativity guide me every day. She has shown me that great strength comes when we all support each other.

This International Women’s Day, I pledge to reinforce the power that comes when we all have an equal place at the table.’

Julie Sprigg, Small Steps

‘I will continue to tell the stories of women challenging gender stereotypes.’

Josephine Taylor, Eye of a Rook

‘I will empower women who are in pain.’

Julienne van Loon, Women of a Certain Rage and Harmless

‘I pledge to be an inclusive feminist.’

H.M. Waugh, The Lost Stone of SkyCity

‘I will continue to challenge gender stereotypes in stories and in life.’

Emma Young, The Last Bookshop

‘In 2021 I am going to encourage my workplace to seek Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Accreditation, to help working mums have options and increase equality in the workforce.’
