Holden Sheppard’s Invisible Boys makes it onto the Better Reading Top 50 Kids Book list

Australia has voted and the results are in for the Better Reading Top 50 Kids book list! Coming in at number 17, Invisible Boys is one of a growing number of debut Australian books identified as a favourite read.

Better Reading Director Cheryl Akle said it was clear there was a strong culture and thirst for local voices. She said, ‘Until a few years ago, you usually had to publish multiple novels before gaining any acknowledgement. Lately, we’ve seen successful debuts where previously unheard-of authors emerge seemingly from nowhere to produce these amazing pieces of writing – and we, the readers, are absolutely lapping it up.’

Along with the Top 50 Kids displays in Big W stores and nationwide support from bookshops, more and more libraries are now creating Top 50 Kids shelves. Better Reading says all over the country, readers use the Top 50 kids as their annual book list, counting down their reads alone, with friends, in libraries and school classrooms and on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter using the hashtags #Top50Kids2021 #BRTop50Kids.

The number one spot went to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling.
