Hosted by the Australian Society of Authors, this panel discusses cultivating a writing community. Featured on the panel is Michael Earp, editor and curator of the anthology Avast! Pirate Stories from Transgender Authors.

Michael understands that the life of a writer can be isolating, filled with long hours dedicated to manuscripts and limited connection with fellow writers or readers. When co-editing the queer anthology, Avast! Michael stated in an e-interview that ‘One of the real joys of writing and editing is the collaboration you can do in the process. Sharing your work can be enriching. There’s an excitement and a pleasure to be had in commissioning a story from someone and then seeing, months later, what they have made.’

Being part of a writing community offers invaluable support: opportunities to workshop ideas, peer review works-in-progress, and share in both successes and challenges. When you’re published, a supportive group can rally around you, attending events, purchasing your books, and recommending you to their networks.

This panel discussion takes place online on Friday 15 November at 1.00 pm AEST and features writers, editors, booksellers and publishing professionals who are passionate about their communities. Tickets to the event start at $50 for ASA members, and can be found: here.
