A free all-ages Storytime event at City of Perth Library with Granny Grommet and Me creators Dianne Wolfer and Karen Blair
On Thursday 30 January at 11.00 am, bestselling author Dianne Wolfer and the illustrative genius of Karen Blair join forces for a Storytime event featuring Granny Grommet and Me, a lovely story about the relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren.
A story that many young reluctant swimmers will identify with, Granny Grommet and Me is about the power of our elders to transform scary experiences into exciting ones. Watching Granny and her friends duck and dive and twist and turn, enjoying catching waves and revelling in the bracing and invigorating ocean spray, helps a junior grommet gain enough confidence to appreciate the wonders that lie beneath the surface of the water. In this post-covid world, this is the perfect book for the next generation to explore how to face fear and transcend anxiety.
The book was inspired by the real Granny Grommets, a group of surfing/boogie-boarding women in Albany, Western Australia.
After the Storytime reading, get creative with an art activity for all ages led by Karen Blair, and stick around the see the plasticine figurines of the Granny Grommets on display in the Fremantle Press display cabinet, featured in the City of Perth Library all summer long!
Boffins Books will be there too with copies of Granny Grommet and Me for sale. And we’ll be giving away a limited-edition tote bag and a copy of the book for one lucky attendee.
This free event is happening at the City of Perth Library on Thursday 30 January, and you can follow the booking link to reserve your tickets at TryBooking: Grommet Storytime.
