Second nomination for The Last Viking Returns

The Last Viking Returns is a finalist in the 2014 Aurealis Awards. The popular children’s book, written by Norman Jorgensen and illustrated by James Foley, is one of six titles shortlisted in the Best Children’s Fiction category. It has been a big month for the duo. The Last Viking Returns was also shortlisted for a 2015 WA Young Readers’ Book Award, and James Foley is currently at the Bologna Book Fair where he will be a featured author at the Hello! From Australia exhibition stand.

Norman Jorgensen said that it was a pleasant shock to be nominated for the Aurealis Award.

‘To be up against some of Australia’s best children’s writers is really fantastic. I am honoured to be in their company and to be shortlisted for such a popular and prestigious award,’ said Norman.

With over 750 entries across twelve categories, the judges had a hugely challenging job, said Aurealis judging coordinator Tehani Wessely.

‘As is always the case, the judges agreed that entries were of a very high standard and the final decisions were subject to much debate among the panellists. The competition becomes stronger every year,’ said Tehani.

Established in 1995, the annual literary award recognises the achievements of Australian authors across twelve categories.

Winners of the 2014 Aurealis Awards and the Convenors’ Award for Excellence will be announced at the Aurealis Awards ceremony on the evening of Saturday 11 April at the University House, Canberra.
