Ningaloo’s making waves with an Indie longlisting

Australia’s independent booksellers have nominated Ningaloo: Australia’s Wild Wonder by Tim Winton and Cindy Lane as one of their favourite children’s books of 2026.

Leanne Kadaraneu, Head of Books at Leading Edge Retail, said she was thrilled to reveal the longlist, which was chosen by the professionals whose recommendations guided readers every day, ‘This year’s longlist showcases the titles that booksellers returned to again and again – because they knew these were the books their readers would love.’

This beautiful hardback picture book explores one of the world’s last great wild regions on earth.

Fremantle Press CEO Alex Allan commissioned the title. Allan said, ‘Ningaloo is a place like no other, so it felt perfect for a non-fiction children’s book celebrating the beauty, diversity and interconnectedness of the area’s ecosystem, and all that dwell within it. Tim’s connection to the place and his vast knowledge made him the only possible author for this book, and I was thrilled when he agreed to work with us and Cindy to bring Ningaloo to life in stunning watercolour. I hope it will be a positive and inspirational read for generations of Australian children who want to get involved in protecting Ningaloo and other endangered environments.’

Ningaloo is available now in all good bookstores and online.
