Fremantle Press announces call-out for Western Australian voice actors

Fremantle Press is seeking voice actors for its exciting new audiobook pilot.
The audiobook pilot will focus on accessibility in education, and making local stories and Australia’s rich cultural heritage available to more listeners.
Fremantle Press has announced the first three books will be junior to middle readers, with a further three titles to be announced by the end of this year. Blu and the Lost Storm by Sabrina Dudgeon-Swift, Penguin Peril by Deb Fitzpatrick and Sunny & Shadow by Helen Milroy will be launched as audio books in the first quarter of 2027.
Head of Sales and Marketing Claire Miller said the team was looking forward to building relationships with talented local performers. Claire said she hoped the project would support established actors as well as emerging professionals looking to gain experience in a new medium. She said, ‘We’re looking for narrators who will treat younger audiences as their equals. We want them to demonstrate emotional range and interesting characterisations while staying true to the audiobook format and style.’
Alex Allan, CEO of Fremantle Press, said the ability to take on and nurture new talent was made possible due to a Capacity Building Grant from Minderoo Foundation Limited, which enables the Press to provide training and mentorship, purchase additional equipment and pay for professional and emerging voice actors.

This project is supported by a project grant from the Minderoo Foundation, Stott Hoare (in association with Microsoft) and Penguin Random House.
