Fremantle Press launches The Classroom Express

Cate Sutherland, Children’s Publisher and Claire Miller, Media and Promotions Manager at Fremantle Press have recently launched The Classroom Express – an e-newsletter and online hub that specialises in education news and resources.

‘The Classroom Express is designed to be fun, practical and above all – quick,’ said Ms Miller.

‘We’re keeping the posts short and direct but linking each one to more extensive teaching notes and back-up resources where available,’ she said.

Fremantle Press, a not-for-profit publisher that specialises in publishing the work of local authors and artists, has a highly regarded education list that includes poetry, fiction, non-fiction and children’s literature. A key component of the Press’ publishing program is its Indigenous titles list.

‘Our particular focus in The Classroom Express will be on the extensive Fremantle Press backlist of Indigenous titles built up over 25 years of publishing in this field,’ said Ms Sutherland.

‘If you are a teacher looking for resources to fit the cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, we’d love to hear from you,’ she said.

The Classroom Express will also include online extras like book trailers, digital readings, colouring-in sheets and animations, as well as a regular ‘Teacher Feature’ where teachers are invited to share how they use books in class. It also allows educators to book authors for school visits and gives teachers the chance to win books for their schools.

‘We are currently working with educationalists to update our teaching resources and include classroom activities that relate directly to the Australian Curriculum,’ said Ms Miller.
