Set of four, signed woodcut prints by WA artist Guy Grey-Smith (1916 – 1981), unframed.

Grey-Smith’s art is woven into the Fremantle Press story, as his iconic Coastline (1976) was used as the cover image for Fremantle Arts Centre Press’ very first publication, the poetry collection Soundings (1976), and his work also appeared in the Fremantle Press title, New Country: A Selection of West Australian Short Stories (1976).

Born in East Wagin, Grey-Smith served as an RAF pilot during World War II. After being shot down in 1940 and held as a prisoner of war, he began sketching, which sparked a lifelong commitment to art. Returning to Western Australia after study in England, he became known for bold, emotive landscapes and a distinctive graphic sensibility that still feels fresh today.

Prints are 27.5 cm x 21 cm each and this set includes:

Airport

Still Life

Landscape

Coastline (cover of Soundings)

Valued at $1600. Provided by Tim Grey-Smith.
