Delicate, observant, and gently beautiful, this set of four botanical artworks represent artist Philippa Nikulinsky at the beginning of her exhibiting career. Created in watercolour, pen and ink in 1976 and 1977, these works were originally shown as part of a solo exhibition at Fremantle Arts Centre (1976-77) and remain in their original frames. Revisiting them decades later, Philippa described them as ‘gentle’ and marvelled at how she captured everything she saw, even if it wasn’t conventionally pretty. Philippa’s beautiful work has been published in solo collections during every decade of Fremantle Press.
Drawn from field trips to Leschenaultia, Chapman Valley, Northampton, Mundaring’s Jarrah Forrest, these artworks are a rare chance to acquire an early series from an artist whose career has gone from strength to strength and has encouraged so many people to look more closely at the natural world.
Valued at $25,000.
