Barbara Helena Hostalek has Yawuru and Gija Aboriginal heritage and is a poet, playwright and animal lover who creates art inspired by boodjar’s (land’s) resilience. She has written several short plays as a member of Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company’s Writer’s Group. They include – Cracked (2015), Banned (2016), Go Fish (2017), Turtle Pool (2018), Thirst (2019), Perpetuity (2020) and Prickly (2021). In 2020, the Black Swan State Theatre Company produced a series of monologues Unsung Heroes: Own Way (2020). Banned (2020) was adapted for radio by ABC RN Fictions.
