Cynthia Dearborn

Cynthia Dearborn is the author of the memoir The Year My Family Unravelled (Affirm Press, 2023). She has written for The Guardian, Meanjin, and The Weekend Australian. Her poem sequence ‘The Darmstadt Year’ was shortlisted for the Newcastle Poetry Prize and her play Queer as a Second Language has been performed in Australia, Japan, the UK and the US. She is also the author (as Cynthia D Nelson) of Sexual Identities in English Language Education: Classroom Conversations (Routledge) and thirty academic book chapters and journal articles. She has a PhD in applied linguistics, has taught in Australia, Japan, and the US, and is currently an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at The University of Sydney. She is married to the poet Tricia Dearborn.
