Paola A Magni

Associate Professor at Murdoch University, Dr. Paola Magni is a forensic scientist specialising in the application of natural sciences in crime scene investigation.

Driven by an insatiable curiosity about nature and its dynamics at the scene, she believes that the only witnesses that cannot lie are the critters. Leaving no stone unturned, no insect uncaught, and no waters unexplored, she relentlessly pursues the truth, decoding nature’s silent witnesses one research at a time.

Her research is primarily centred around forensic entomology, aquatic forensics, and best practices for managing challenging crime scenes, although her interests cross over into marine biology, anthropology, and trace evidence. She has pioneered innovative programs in forensic science education targeting cross-jurisdictional crimes such as environmental violations, biosecurity breaches, illicit trafficking, and humanitarian concerns, that have earned national recognition. Expert witness in Court of Law, she has made significant contributions to several high-profile cases.

Dr. Magni serves as a board and committee member of several institutions nationally and internationally, and she is sought after as a media commentator and award-winning science communicator. Her expertise has been acknowledged with numerous accolades, including the prestigious knighthood conferred by her home country.
