The House of Fiction on Australian Story

Susan Swingler is the step-daughter of one of Australia’s most revered writers – Elizabeth Jolley. Abandoned by her father Leonard at the age of four, Susan had no contact with the Jolley family until they found and reclaimed her at the age of twenty-one. Why they were kept apart is the subject of her startling memoir The House of Fiction published by Fremantle Press.

Now the author and her story are set to feature on Australian Story. ‘Letters from Elizabeth’ will be broadcast at 8pm on Monday 28 October, ABC1. The program contains previously unpublished love letters between Elizabeth Jolley and Leonard written at the height of their affair.
