New audio and screen on the horizon for Fremantle Press authors

We just finished up at the Australia Council’s Visiting International Publishers program where we’ve been talking to publishers, scouts and agents. This year’s program included representatives from Germany, India, Spain, France, the US, Denmark, the Netherlands, the UK and Canada. It’s way too early to talk about any results from the program as yet but we do have a couple of other exciting rights announcements to make instead.

We had the opportunity to listen to three professional actors reading from Before It Breaks by Dave Warner. One of them will be the person contracted by Wavesound to bring all three of Warner’s award-winning crime novels, and the characters Snowy Lane and Dan Clement, to life in the audio editions of City of LightBefore It Breaks and Clear to the Horizon. Watch this space for the release dates.

Felicity Young’s three-book crime series has been optioned for film by Factor 30 Films. Headed by producer Melissa Kelly, Factor 30 Films champions ‘bold, creative storytelling with women in the lead on and off screen’ – in other words it’s a perfect fit for a series that has the sassy detective Stevie Hooper as the lead character. You may know of the company via their most recent feature film Hounds of Love, which was described by David Stratton as ‘a little masterpiece of horror’ and which was selected for six international festivals, picking up best actress awards for Emma Booth at the AACTA Awards and the Brussels International Film Festival. We’d love to see Young’s An Easeful DeathHarum Scarum and Take Out go into production, so keep your fingers crossed!
