Fremantle Press authors Cristy Burne and James Foley make the shortlist for a prize decided by young readers

To the Lighthouse by Cristy Burne and Dungzilla by James Foley have been shortlisted for the 2019 West Australian Young Readers’ Book Awards (WAYRBA).

Both books are shortlisted in the Younger Readers category and will be up against 17 other books, and each other, in a bid to claim the prize.

James Foley, author of the S.Tinker Inc. series of books, of which Dungzilla is the second, said, ‘It’s an honour to see Sally, Joe and Douglas the dung beetle included on this shortlist of really terrific books for young readers. And it’s even more awesome to know that it was the young readers of Western Australia who put it there.’

Cristy Burne said, ‘It’s honestly a dream come true to see To the Lighthouse shortlisted by young Western Australian readers. Thank you, everybody! I’m always thinking of my readers when I’m writing, so it’s a superb feeling to know you’re enjoying Isaac and Emmy’s adventures.

‘There are so many amazing books on the WAYRBA shortlist and I can’t wait to read them all! Happy reading and don’t forget to get your votes in!’

Children throughout WA can vote for their favourite until 27 September 2019. The winners will be announced in November 2019 after all the votes have been collected and counted.

So if you, your family or your class enjoyed either Dungzilla or To the Lighthouse, jump on the WAYBRA website and find out how to vote for them to win.

BrobotDungzilla and Gastronauts by James Foley, and Off the Track and To the Lighthouse by Cristy Burne are available from all good bookstores and online at www.fremantlepress.com.au.
