Centres call for WA writers as they get set for a new round of the Four Centres Emerging Writers Publishing Program

With support from WA’s Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, an exciting initiative between Fremantle Press and four local writing centres will continue to provide Western Australian writers with the opportunity to improve their chances of publication.

The Four Centres Emerging Writers Program is a series of workshops, mentorships and special events to encourage more writers to prepare their manuscripts for submission. During the two-year program writers work alongside a community of peers at a similar stage in their career and receive encouragement for achieving their writing goals.

Fremantle Press will work in collaboration with Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers’ Centre (KSP), the Fellowship of Australian Writers WA (FAWWA), WA Poets Inc and Peter Cowan Writers Centre (PCWC) to deliver the program. Some 30 to 40 emerging Western Australian authors will develop their manuscripts while learning the ins and outs of the publishing process and the business of being a writer.

Fremantle Press CEO Jane Fraser said the Four Centres Emerging Writers Pilot Program, which ran from 2019 to 2020, had been a resounding success from the perspectives of WA’s emerging writers, the writing centres and Fremantle Press. ‘We are delighted that the work undertaken in the pilot program will continue for another two years. We were excited to see our first-round writers secure contracts, residencies and recognition from major national prizes. We believe the information shared, the skills learned and the new networks created will continue to have a lasting impact on the sector.’

The Four Centres Emerging Writers Program is supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. To apply for a place, you must be a member of one of the four centres: The Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAWWA), The Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre, The Peter Cowan Writers Centre and West Australian Poets Inc. (WAPI, poets only).  WA authors (only) will be alerted when applications open.
