We’re excited to bring you another event in the Great Big Book Club series. This time Julia Lawrinson will be joined for an in conversation with journalist and writer Gillian O’Shaughnessy to discuss Julia’s debut memoir How to Avoid a Happy Life.

Some people are born into bad situations, some people have bad situations thrust upon them, and some people find bad situations through their dodgy choices, lack of information and personal idiosyncrasies. In How to Avoid a Happy Life, readers will see that Julia’s life sits at the intersection of all three. Gillian says she can’t remember the last time she read such a brilliant memoir. Gillian says, ‘[Julia] is such a great storyteller. She takes you with her.’

Hosted by The Literature Centre, the pair will immerse themselves in a conversation about authenticity within memoir writing, the disparity between truth and trauma porn, and how to negotiate shifting identities over time when writing memoir.

Light refreshments will be provided. Book sales and signings will be presented by The Literature Centre.

Tickets are free but limited; secure your tickets today using the booking link.
