Fremantle Press shortlisted for Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publisher of the Year

Fremantle Press is in the running to receive a prestigious Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publisher of the Year in the Oceania Region.

The prize celebrates publishing innovation and creative editorial curation for books published in the previous year.

Fremantle Press children’s publisher Cate Sutherland said she was honoured to see her list gaining recognition internationally. She said, ‘We believe in every title we publish and in every creator we work with. It is gratifying to know that others recognise the unique talents that make us so proud of the quality of our children’s list.’

CEO Alex Allan said this means a great deal to an independent publisher like Fremantle Press, as we strive to share stories from Western Australia far and wide. She said, ‘A huge thank you to all our amazing children’s authors and illustrators!’

The prize recognises publishers which have most distinguished themselves in each of the six areas of the world: Africa, Caribbean, Central and South America, North America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. The award is designed to foster a mutual exchange of knowledge and ideas among different countries, areas and cultural identities.

The winners are selected by the publishers exhibiting at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and are chosen from among the shortlisted publishing houses nominated by their peers: publishers, publishers’ associations and institutions devoted to reading promotion worldwide. Exhibitors participating in the forthcoming BCBF can vote for their favourite publishing houses in the reserved exhibitors’ area on the BCBF website. The deadline for voting is Wednesday, 20 March 2024. The winners of each geographical area will be announced during the BCBF Awarding Ceremony, which will take place on the evening of Monday, 8 April 2024.
