Kelly Canby’s picture book, The Hole Story, named Teacher Favourite in North America

Just when we thought Kelly Canby’s star couldn’t keep rising, we were sent the amazing news that the North American edition of her picture book The Hole Story has just been named a Teacher Favourite in the 2024 North American Children’s Book Council Awards.

Kelly Canby said she was surprised and delighted by the news. She said, ‘I am thrilled and floored and a “hole” lot more! There are a lot of books published in the US so to have had The Hole Story chosen as a Teachers Favourite by teachers in over 50 states across the country is truly mind blowing. I would thank each one of them individually if I could!’

To compile the annual FAVORITES list, thousands of children, teachers and librarians in rural and urban schools and libraries across the US vote for their best-loved children’s, middle grade and young adult titles each year, making this one of the most comprehensive and diverse lists anywhere.

Started by the International Literacy Association and the Children’s Book Council in 1974, the highest-voted titles are made into the CBC Favorites Awards Lists, a series of six lists showcasing books that young readers, teachers and librarians really enjoy reading!

The Hole Story is published by Starlight Books in the USA and is available in all good bookstores and online right here in Australia.
