Josh Kemp introduces his latest novel, Jasper Cliff, and brings a new wave of Australian Gothic literature to WA
Josh Kemp, author of Australian gothic fiction, will be touring his latest novel, Jasper Cliff, at a WA library near you.
Josh says he is attracted to writing Gothic fiction as a mode of storytelling that explores the legacy and trauma of colonisation. ‘Australian Gothic is an incredibly diverse mode of fiction that emerged during the earliest days of the colony. Broadly, the mode deals with the darker side of the Australian experience, stories about murder and hauntings, isolation and violence.’
In the town of Jasper Cliff, people have a habit of vanishing. As Lachlan drives north to look for his younger brother Toby, he is drawn towards this tiny outpost, and to a place called The Rift, where the secret about Toby’s disappearance may be revealed.
Thursday 12 September – Busselton Library The library will host an evening in-conversation and meet-the-author event where Josh will discuss Jasper Cliff, and his first novel, Banjawarn. Details: here.
Thursday 19 September – Civic Square Library (Booragoon) Josh will be joined in conversation with host and fellow 2023 Fogarty shortlister, Emily Paull. Emily and Josh will be discussing their processes of submitting to local writing awards. Details: here.
Tuesday 22 October – Wanneroo Library Josh will feature in conversation as part of the library’s Author Talks events, presented by the City of Wanneroo Libraries. Further event details about this session will be available soon: here.
