Kelly Canby’s calendar just lit up like a Christmas tree with an exhibition, a live adaptation of her picture book and the announcement of the Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards

There’s nothing little about Kelly Canby’s light this August. With a book in the running for a Western Australian Premier’s Book Award, an adaptation of Littlelight heading to the stage and screen, and the launch of a new exhibition, the spotlight is definitely pointed in Kelly’s direction.

First up is The Art of Illustration by Kelly Canby at the Subiaco Museum. Opening night is this Friday 6 August and the exhibition will include illustrations from her books Rodney, The Hole Story, Littlelight and her Jaclyn Moriarty collaboration. The night will include guided tours of the museum and exhibition spaces, and it’s free! Click here to book your free tickets. 

Next up, Books to Life will be launching live and interactive virtual productions of Littlelight Australia wide. Adapted for stage and screen, and performed by ‘Tony Bones’ Appleby, the show is a 40-minute performance of Kelly’s CBCA notable book with a full Q&A session and plenty of lesson plans and curriculum resources so teachers can get the most out of the production. Last but definitely not least, stay tuned on 25 August to find out if Littlelight takes out a Western Australian Premier’s Book Award. This would be Kelly’s second win, but she’s up against Fremantle Press stablemates Meg McKinlay and Helen Milroy, so fingers crossed for them all!
