Fremantle Press books in running to win Western Australian Premier’s Book Award

Eight books representing nine writers have been shortlisted for the Western Australian Premier’s Book Award. They are in the running to win a $15,000 prize from a total pool of $120,000.

Administered by the State Library of Western Australia, the Premier’s Book Awards support and promote authors, illustrators and publishers, while encouraging readers to engage with local stories.

Premier Roger Cook called the awards a platform for celebrating the creativity, talent and diversity of local writers and publishers. He said, ‘By investing in creative industries, my government is celebrating creativity as a force that strengthens communities and fosters a vibrant and creative economy.’

CEO of Fremantle Press Alex Allan said she loved seeing the variety of books chosen for this year’s shortlist. She said, ‘We have established authors like David Whish-Wilson and James Foley sitting alongside new writers Andrea Thompson and Andrew McDonald and important books about our history of medical apartheid alongside books that look playful, but which have an underlying message that is very serious. We’re incredibly proud of the authors and their creations.’
