Fremantle Press is in the running for ABIA’s Small Publisher of the year

Fremantle Press has been shortlisted for the Australian Book Industry Award for Small Publisher of the Year. The Australian Book Industry Awards, which were inaugurated in 2001, celebrate excellence and innovation from the teams and individuals across the industry who get books into the hands of readers – from authors and artists to publishers, editors, marketers and booksellers.

Fremantle Press CEO Alex Allan thanked both the ABIA and the Australian Publishers Association. Alex said, ‘It means a lot to see Fremantle Press recognised on the ABIA shortlist alongside other small publishers we admire, and who together bring so much richness and diversity to our market. We had a great year in 2023, with some wonderful books from our brilliant Western Australian authors.’

Awarded to an Australian publisher with a turnover of less than $10 million, the Small Publisher of the Year Award recognises publishers whose program (including sales, promotion, editorial and production) demonstrated excellence, commensurate with the publisher’s size, in the preceding calendar year, thereby contributing to the overall success of the industry.

The other publishers on the shortlist are Magabala Books, Monash University Press, Pantera Press, Rockpool and UQP. The winner will be announced in Melbourne at Zinc Fed Square on Thursday 9 May.
