Fremantle Press poet Kevin Gillam has won the Lorikeet Centre’s Open Your Mind poetry competition for his poem ‘clockwise is off’. This is the second 2015 win for the acclaimed poet, orchestra conductor, music teacher and freelance cellist who was awarded the Sawtooth Writing Prize for Poetry in February.
Light Horse Boy by Dianne Wolfer and Brian Simmonds has won the Children’s Book category of the 2014 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards. Both creators were on hand to receive their award from the Hon. Colin Barnett MLA, Premier of Western Australia at the awards ceremony at Hackett Hall in the Western Australian Museum.
The City of Fremantle has given its support for the next six years for the prestigious T.A.G. Hungerford Award alongside existing partners writingWA, The West Australian and Fremantle Press.
